How to lock a file

hey i am writing an application in which we can read and writes into a file is there any way i can ensure that the file cannot be used by ne one or other application till my application runs

You can use FileChannel & FileLock classes in java.nio.channels package.
See here for details & examples.

But remember that this feature is platform dependent.
