Hi,
Is anybody here help me in Law Questions.
My friend is having some problem,i don't know abt US Laws.we r from Asia.
My friend husband introduced her to a lady,(colleague's wife). On the second meeting itself they felt she is so freaking.but bcoz of her hubby they didn't react anything.
my friend's hubby was out of town for some time. That lady called her & helping her in groceries & all.
she was good at that time. One day she asked my friend abt their vacation she said "His company is not permitting leave.we r upset".
Immediately she mailed her hubby advising him & criticing him.she was prejustice in that email.she compared with unemployed people.
He replied "No Iam not upset abt vacation.
I love to work for my company.Dont talk abt company to my wife".
then she replied Do u think iam spying for ur company. She cursed him for nothing.she black mailed him like "Iam in good position i can do what ever i can & listed all the things she has done when he was out of town".
My friend's hubby is a calm type. He won't hurt anyone. He got upset & replied "Thanks for everything u did but dont email my wife she is so sensitive.she is crying all day long"
He even sent a copy to her husband.
she again emailed him like I need a written apology from ur wife.Bcoz she is a liar.she is lying abt me.If not i will sue her.
My friend is not in this picture. This time She just jumped to my friend.
But that lady husband is apologising for what she did?
Do u guys think my friend is having any problem legally?
They had every emails.
They know them for only 2 months.
This is a lesson for everyone.we should not be close to any strangers.
Plz help her.

It isn't clear (to me at least) what would even be sued for? I couldn't really tell what the problem is from your post. I know there is a language issue but you jump from one thing to another without fully explaining what happened.
PS Many people say I will sue.

PLEASE reduce the contractions in your posts!
This is almost a textbook case of english as a second language and short forms of words (and deliberate grammar shortcuts?) creating an almost unreadable posting.
I guess I'm in danger of sparking another 'Y do U do this 2 UR posts' thread, but maybe it's time.
(actually, frustrated rather than mad, but there's no emoticon for this)

I couldn't even keep the characters straight! How about trying again without abbreviations and with giving each person an alias so we can have a chance of following the story.

I agree. Could you please refer to the different people by some name so we can keep things clear. Then we might be able to help you.

OK, I translated it into English as best as I could... and I still don't understand it!!!

My friend (Joan) is having a problem. I don't know about US Laws. We are from Asia.
Joan's husband, Ralph has a colleague named Jack. Ralph, introduced Joan to Jack's wife (Sally). On the second meeting Joan and Ralph felt that there was something not quite right with Sally. But since Sally was the wife of a colleague they decided to ignore it.
Ralph was out of town for some time. Sally called Joan and started doing things to help her like get groceries. Sally was acting very friendly at that time. One day Sally asked Joan about Ralph's vacation time. Sally said "Jack's company is not permitting him to go on vacation. We are very upset".
Immediately Sally emailed Ralph advising him and criticing him. Ralph replied "No, I am not upset about vacation. I love to work for my company. Please don't talk about my company with Joan".
Sally replied, "Do you think I am spying for your company?" She cursed Ralph for nothing. She threatened Ralph saying, "I am in a good position. I can do whatever I want." And then she listed all the things she had done for Joan when he was out of town.
Ralph is a calm type. He wouldn't hurt anyone. But he got upset and replied, "Thanks for everything you did but don't email my wife she is so sensitive. She is crying all day long." He even sent a copy to Jack.
Sally again emailed Ralph saying that she needs a written apology from Joan because she is a liar. Sally claimed Joan was lying about her and threatened to sue.
Do you guys think Joan is having any legal problems? They have all the emails.
They know them for only 2 months.

Please help her.

Damn fine job Thomas. You must have been up all night!
Anyway, standard disclaimer: I am not a lawyer and therefore don't know what I am talking about any more than the next person.
Sounds like Sally needs psychological help to me. Let's assume that Joan did lie about Sally. The most likely grounds for suit would be slander (also see libel).
Joan's alleged lies about Sally would have to meet some pretty strict requirements to meet the definition of slander, particularly that they would have to injure her character or reputation. Malice must also be present.
The slander must, of course, be published, that is communicated to a third person; and if verbal, then in a language which he understands, otherwise the plaintiff's reputation is not impaired.

Most likely, Sally has no grounds for a lawsuit.

Hi,
Sorry for my language mistakes.Just now Iam learning english.
Forgive me.
I should thank Thomas for doing this great Job.
Thanks Jason.
I will clear ur doubts :
Let me be clear in this :-(
1. sally even wrote in her mail to ralph that
Joan didn't tell anything abt ur work.
2.Joan never opened her mouth to anyone abt sally (except her husband). There is no evidence for telling lies to someone.
3.She is going to file slander suit bcoz ralph mailed her "Bcoz of ur few comments joan is upset. So dont call her please ".
4. Joan was with her (another friend) donna while sally was passing all those comments.
She is coming fwd to help Joan.
Everyone is asking the same question "On what base she can do this"
Plz help us,

I wouldn't worry about it. Sally would need a lawyer and any ethical lawyer (oxymoron?) will tell her that she doesn't any grounds to file a lawsuit. So pretty much I wouldn't worry. If she has no proof of slander, and it doesn't sound like there was any to begine with, you don't have anything to worry about. The legal system here is about as fair as it gets, so just because she wants to file a suit, doesn't mean she can file any frivolous lawsuit she feels like.
If she can find a lawyer to actually take her case, which based on what you said sounds doubtful, her lawyer will first have to serve you. If you get served (which based on the info you have given us doesn't sound likely) then get a lawyer and he will probably go to town on her and maybe even recoup your costs.

Employers generally don't care if civil suits were brought against any of their employees, as far as I know. I would have to say though, that if you are seriously worried about any of this, then just talk to a lawyer. Only a lawyer can give you good legal advice and none of us here are lawyers.
