I've managed to get myself in a complete muddle with Say with my code de-generating through 5 discombobulations So, obviously I need to re-think my approach. I've gone through most of the earlier posts and need some confirmation before I re-try this thing.

  • Don't put all the logic in main(), point is write methods() which handle specific functions
  • Use division and modular arithmetic vs character strings to parse the number
  • Get the initial code working and nit-picked then move on to the extra-credit portion

  • Have I got this right?
    Thanks,
    Jane

Interestingly enough, for my version which was finally accepted, there are no methods other than the main...everything is contained there, aside from a few class members. I guess I assumed that the requirement to use external methods applied to the extra credit version. And as I am finding out, through wrestling with the extra credit "billion" version, an external method is just what the doctor (nitpicker?) ordered. Makes the whole thing much easier to do.

Marilyn, Ok ... I'll take another crack at it this weekend.
Hi Ryan ... I went right for the extra credit. As it turns out, big mistake!

Actually, I wrote an extra method and was told to get rid of it.
Good luck!
