pls refer to some good resources on exception handling. Are there any standards that you should not catch NullPointerExceptions and others?
i guess sun tutorial will be great to get started. to Catch a NullPointerException or anyother exception will depend on the application you are doing. if the application depends on the value of a reference at a given time then you must, otherwise, you can leave it as it is. But it's always *good*(read:nice to the user) that all possible exceptions be caught and an appropriate message be displayed. done with my point of view this (http://mindprod.com/jgloss/nullpointerexception.html) might be a good read...
resource on thread programming:http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2000/jw-1215-threadbooks.html? (a bit old, but still works!)
Namaste, i honour the spirit in you which is also in me.
