package or tool for downloading updates to software

Hi all,

A question on tools to update java software.

I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction as to any open source (or not if necessary) package that handles serving software updates.

The idea is to eventually move to a model where our java software on our appliances is smart enough to go to one of our servers and pick up the latest release of our software. But for now, we need to set up a site that has an update file (perhaps install4j or install anywhere file) that can be downloaded and installed by the users. I've seen samples of this here and there when I'm downloading other java updates, which I think could be used in my case. I'm on a limited timeline, and don't want to reinvent the wheel.

I'm on Spring 1.2.7, Java 1.5, if that helps any.

Thanks ahead!

I don't know on which devices you are running your programs (normal PCs connected to Internet or some portable device?) - but maybe Java Web Start might be useful to you.

Hi Jesper,

thanks for the reply. I don't think I'll be able to use web start. This is a j2ee app that's going to require redeployment of a downloaded file.

I agree. Here's the link: http://aspose.com/file-tools
