Certain commercial programs have been known to hijack your browser preferences and set your home page and do other things you wish they hadn't. Some can be easily reset and/or removed, others practically require wiping the disk and reinstalling Windows. Often these programs (and many are from reputable software houses) also install what's known as "spyware". I ripped about 5 spyware programs out of a friend's system recently. Not only were they communicating all sorts of personal information about the user without his knowledge, they were running CPU usage up to 100%. Have you installed one of those Internet Toolbars in your browser? Or maybe a game, learning program or a "hobby" type program?
An IDE is no substitute for an Intelligent Developer.
If you use windows, you can use - ipconfig /flushdns command on your command prompt, but I doubt if it will help. Looks like they have messed up with your registry settings, MS typically allows customization for IE for ISPs. Few ppl misuse this feature, and play around with registry, have a look at sth suspicious under - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer key using regedit. I suggest you serach for their URL under this key, and if found delete it. (Do it only if you are comfortable with editing your registry!). If you can post the name of the site that IE opens (I believe your homepage is blank), I'd be able to find out sth.. (as passthison.com, gohip have notorious settings, and there are articles in MSDN knowledge base abt how to remove it) HTH, - Manish
