windows service problem

I run a polling program that is incorporated into an .exe file using JEXECreator. This allows a windows service to be created based on the .exe file.

Unfortunately when the server is shut down for maintenance the program crashes and does not restart (even though the service restarts) when the server is re-booted until the service is manually stopped and restarted.

Can anyone suggest the best approach to take when creating a service so that this type of problem doesn't happen

I have no idea what is going wrong.
Is it an option to try something like Java Service Wrapper, as that is what you are trying to do in this case with your JEXECreator?

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
