Hi, all
I've got a free JavaOne ticket from Mr. Paul Wheaton. You know who he is, don't you?
It turns out that I cannot use it for some unexpected reasons. I'm willing to transfer this ticket to your name, and lets you go the San Francisco on June 10-13th. If you are living in the Bay Area, it would be even cooler.
However, I want you to donate $200 or more to the JavaRanch, which has helped you so much and let you have so much fun here too. The ticket will go to the highest bidder who is willing to donate the most amount to JavaRanch...
Post your bid on this thread, serious bidder only, please!
The bid will end in two weeks from today, Wed. May 14th 10:00pm MDT.

The procedure to transfer a ticket according to Sun:
a) I call them to give them your name, email, address, phone number etc.
b) I send you a signed letter to express that I'm willing to let you go to JavaOne using my ticket.
c) You bring your photo id and my letter to the conference.
Let's have some fun! Thanks!
Roseanne
The listed price of JavaOne full conference pass is $1995.00 after 05-01-2003. JUG member discount price is $1695.00. What a deal!!!

Wow, I think that this thread makes a bold statement. Interest in going to JavaOne is so low that people aren't willing to pay $200 to go.

It usually means don't bid unless you fully intend to pay the money if you win.
Interest in going to JavaOne is so low that people aren't willing to pay $200 to go.
Well, I'd be willing, if I wasn't already going. Some people are interested and already going; some are interested but can't fit it in their schedules. (Sorry you won't be there, Roseanne.) But yeah, it's surprising there aren't at least a few people who'd be interested and able to go at this price. I guess (a) if you're currently employed, it may be hard to get off work for a week if you didn't already arrange it, and (b) if you're not employed, minimizing expenses is pretty important. In addition to $200 most people would have to pay for hotel and airfare. Still, there ought to be some takers here...

I'd love to go but as Jim said many of us can't fit it into schedule and/or budget. My oldest daughter is getting married the Saturday before so schedule is a slight problem and budget is a HUGE problem. I've told my youngest daughter that she will have to elope.

Now I feel a little ripped off in the banner swap thing with sun. Oh well. A deal's a deal.
But this is pretty interesting. Clearly somebody pays full price to go to JavaOne. Who are those people? Managers?

It needs a right person to see the right ads on the right time, and be in the right place.
Be patient a little bit!

there are definitely companies out there who pay full price.. I think one of the divisions here is sending 6 people... I emailed them when you had your eBay auction, but I guess they'd already bought them.

I would LOVE to see how they would have presented E-Bay as a line item on an Expense Report .

Yes, I think so. They also had a Tokyo version of JavaOne. Maybe more, but I don't know.

Roseanne, if it is not too late...I mean, if you still have the ticket to JavaOne, please send me a private message with the details about this ticket. I'm interested in attending this year's JavaOne. Thanks.

Since I haven't heard from Roseanne yet, I guess I missed the boat. Isn't there anybody on this forum from sun.com or java.sun.com who can help me with an (exhibits-only) pass to JavaOne 2003?

Don't think there is an "exhibits only pass" to Java one unless you're one of the exhibitors (note I said exhibitors not exhibitionists).
Anyway -- check out Paul's sale on e-Bay:
