Hi All, I am java programmer with some good knowledge. I want to contribute to some open source so that I can learn more and code more but not sure where to start. Can someone please guide me how to go about and what are all the prerequisites needed for open source contribution.

I'd start by finding a project that you like and use yourself. Then you can join the developer and user mailing lists to see what people are asking for or complaining about. One of those issues might be a good starting point. Make sure to coordinate with the other developers, so that you're not inadvertently working on something that someone else is already looking into, or that has already been discussed and rejected.
Hi Ulf, Thanks for the reply. One more doubt Where can I find such project?

Does that mean you can't think of any project that you use and like yourself? Choosing something you don't use seems a sure way to lose interest quickly.
Both SourceForge and Apache/Jakarta host many Java projects. Also check out www.java-source.net. [ June 04, 2008: Message edited by: Ulf Dittmer ]
