Hello, my name is Derek White. I am 17 and I attend Owen Valley High School.
This year I must complete a project that is required for my graduation. This project, Patriot Expo, requires a mentor during the time I do the project. I have called many local colleges and have found that they have no mentoring programs. However, the coordinator informed me that I am allowed a mentor over the internet, granted they are someone who can actually help me. I am not asking anyone here to do my homework for me. I love Java and programming and computers very much. I program about 28 hours a week and enjoy every minute of it.

I am asking please for someone who knows basic Java (the program doesn't require an advanced Java programmer) to be my mentor while I do this project.

More information about the Patriot Expo program can be found here.

I could be interested. I've got 35+ years of professional development experience, ten with Java, and have taught college CS courses.

You'll have to convince me you are worth working with, which means a proposal for what you want to do, a plan on how to do it, goals, etc. and you'll have to have your school advisor, looks like Renny Mauder, contact me.

PM me if you want follow up.

Hello Derek,

Welcome to JavaRanch. I would be interested in mentoring you. I've been programming computers since I was in junior high (early 80's) and have ten years of professional Java programming experience. I have done mentoring before and have taught some CS classes.

I would need to discuss the project, the program, and your goals with you a little more before I could make a definitive commitment. Feel free to take a look my posts here at JavaRanch to get a feel for me and my style. If you want to discuss further, PM me. Either way, I wish you the best of luck in your studies.
