Capturing printStackTrace()

I'm trying to figure out how to capture the full exception message in a String. I plan on putting this in a text area so the user can copy/paste and email me the error. The printStackTrace() methods can take a printStream or printWriter obejct as an argument, but I'm not sure how to stick this info in a String.
Any help is appreciated.
