I think out is a static variable of System class. This is what I could understand from the API. Can anybody explain this further.

Hi,
static variable of System class is PrintStream object.

The class System has 3 fields: in, out and err. The "in" field is an InputStream. The "out" and "err" fields are PrintStreams.
PrintStream has the print() and println() methods (as well has several others).
