Dear Friends
I am a beginner in Java without any software background. Can somebody tell me what is the software I need to install on my Hard disk to write Java programmes?
What are the good books for beginners?

Go to www.java.sun.com and download the java version for your platform. Follow the install directions and check to make sure your path and/or class path variables are set up correctly. Thats all u need to get started.

A good starting point is right here at JavaRanch at Cattle Drive. Also the Bunkhouse has book reviews.
Let us know if you need more info.

a lot of the books come with some version of the JDK on a cdrom... i installed JDK 1.2 from a cdrom that came with The Java Tutorial, 3rd Edition on my Linux box and on Windows 2000 & 98 boxes... same disc.
i suggest getting it from a book if you do not have a high-speed connection.

what?

Please change your name to be compliant with JavaRanch's naming policy.
Your ID should be 2 separate names with more than 1 letter each. We really want this to be a professional forum and would prefer that you use your REAL name.
Thanks,
Cindy
