Walmart's Silly Game

You know the Price Rollback that Walmart is so proud of? I've caught them in a little confidence scheme (I'm sure others have noticed also). Here's how it works, Kraft BBQ Sauce has been 0.68 for ages, suddenly one day it goes up to 0.88 almost the MSRP for about a month, then lo and behold they Rollback the price to 0.72. So they make it look like they have cut the price by 0.16 but have actually gone up 0.04. I've seen this on several items in the last year. Their customer service sux ass as my sons would say, so how much longer can they stay on top?

I don't know how old you are James, but back in the 60s there was a similar chain called Gibson's. They were as ubiquitous as Walmart is now. People said the same thing about them, but guess what? Their customer service continued to go down the toilet, they mistreated their employees as well as their customers and now they're gone. The problem is success breeds complacency. But Walmart has enough market share and capital to stay on top if they play it smart. Could be that poor customer service and digruntled employees are not a problem outside this area. In the Longview Super Center, they do stocking at 6:00PM Friday night, one of the busiest shopping times of the week with no concern for their customers. The stockers are rude and couldn't care less if they are in your way or not. Maybe one checker in ten is polite, friendly and considerate. You can tell that nobody really wants to be working there.

Yep, but don't it really piss you off when they do it? It's like they're saying "You're too f---ing stupid to catch this and I'm a really smart business person for deceiving the very people that keep me in business."

That you purchase BBQ sauce in sufficient enough quantities to notice price changes over time seems to me to be proof positive that you are indeed from Texas.

Yep. I make my own special blend too. No tomato at all. The base is Louisiana Hot Sauce with molasses, honey, brown sugar, woo sauce, soy sauce and Cajun spice blend. Hot and sweet, just like I like women.

That does make sense to stock at 6:00pm. Have you told the management?
Also, I remember Gibsons- It faded out in the 1970's I believe as I was still a young boy.
