1. Should there be a national gun registry? No. Enforcement of existing laws, and ensuring that those who break laws actually receive punishment that is comparable to the crime, is what is required, not more laws.
2. Should same-sex marriage be legal? No. The legal recognition of marriage has the historical purpose of ensuring protection and legal status for dependant wives (remember women working is a relatively new thing) and children, particularly in the event of the man's death. While this does not all still hold today, in light of the legal reason's for recognizing marriage, sufficient justification would have to be provided why this should be extended to same-sex couples.
3. Should there be federal restrictions on abortions? Yes. Does the converse, meaning there are no federal restrictions, imply the potential for legal abortions at any time as long as it is prior to birth and for any reason?
4. Should there be criminal penalties for possessing small amounts of pot? As long as pot is illegal, yes. If having
alot of something is illegal, having a little of it is illegal as well.
5. Should all citizens have free health care? In other words "should we be a welfare state?" No.
6. Did you support the war on Iraq? Yes.
I figure that probably makes me about as un-Canadian as possible.
