looking for an open source project

Hey everyone
Does anyone know of an ongoing open source project (using Java obviously) that would be suitable for a relative beginner? I can always just make up my own project but it would be nice to be able to see what other people have done with the same code and objectives.
Any input would be appreciated

Check out the http://www.javaworkshop.net headed up by Rancher Bill Bozeman.
Also, http://www.sourceforge.net is one of the biggest open source hosting sites around
