Is there a faster way to download the JDK?

Hi! Is there is a faster way to download the JDK ver. 1.3 from Sun's website? I just have a dial-up connection at home and it'll take me around 3 hours to accomplish this. On the other hand, a friend of mine has the JDK version 1.2 on several CDs he got from the JavaOne Conference early this year. Is getting the latest version really the best thing to do? Or is it ok if I use the CDs with the earlier version instead?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Depends on what you are doing. If you are just wanting to learn Java, the 1.2 is fine.
