An instance of a class is the same thing as saying an object of a particular class. The class itself can be considered a template for a particular kind of object. Instances/objects of the class type are created, and they will contain all the components belonging to the class.
I am sure somoene else can add some more...

An instance of a class (an object) exists on the heap and holds the STATE of the instance (the value of it's member fields) at any given time.
