it took me 50 years, but i finally understand what relationships are all about and how they work. amazing that most women understand this intuitively before they even get out of high school.

I'm less than half of your age. So, could you please explain what you've understood and why it took you so long ?

lol Map, another of natures cruel jokes.

What do you intend to do with this newfound understanding, Mr. Twede?

avoid being alone the rest of my life.
andres> there are two basic concepts.
first, a relationship is like a scale and needs to be balanced. for example, if one person comes on too strong too fast the other can become alarmed and back away. if the first person reacts by becoming more desperate then the scale becomes unbalanced and the relationship can fail.
second, a relationship has a life of its own and sometimes you have to think not about what is good for you, or whats good for the other person, but what is good for the relationship.

Chemistry is even more useful for women studies than physiology. I am telling you this as a woman. Nuclear physics is more useful yet, if you hear what I am saying.

I was a physics major. I got thrown out because I didn't snort when I laughed. My geek levels were only high enough for CS but not physics.

Think of emotions: fear, compassion, desire, greed, love, etc. When women does something you have to think not what purpose her actions serve, but rather what emotions triggered her actions. This is the only way you can explain woman. My ideal is woman without fear.

Woman without fear doesnt perceive danger, but it doesnt mean there is no danger. She doesnt look for a Knight only for someone to fulfill her positive emotions like love. But if the one is not a Knight she would ultimately lose. She needs a Knight even more then other women.

Perhaps. Another guess that occurred to me is it might be a reference to, ahhh, "fusion". Or not. I suppose if Map wants to drop more hints, that might help; the original quote is fairly opaque.

Dictionary.com:
reductionism
"An attempt or tendency to explain a complex set of facts, entities, phenomena, or structures by another, simpler set: “For the last 400 years science has advanced by reductionism... The idea is that you could understand the world, all of nature, by examining smaller and smaller pieces of it. When assembled, the small pieces would explain the whole” (John Holland)."
I was sarcastic.

RT: i finally understand what relationships are all about and how they work. amazing that most women understand this intuitively before they even get out of high school.
I'm not so sure if I agree with this. I certainly believe that women, from an earlier age than men, find relationships more rewarding and are more inclined to invest time in relationships. But I'm not so sure if either gender has the recipe for success in relationships, (hence our high divorce rates). Women may have for whatever reasons particular skills, needs, and/or traits that make them more suitable for relationships, but unfortunately at the end of the day the straight girls are still dealing with a man. So if men are not typically prone to relationships, then they are dealing with someone who is not into what they are into and so starts the trouble. It does take two to tango...

My notes on wimmin:
1) All chicks are psycho. The goal is to find a chick that you can cope with.
2) When a chick complains about a stupid problem, don't point out the obvious solution. Instead say "those bastards. I'm going to go and beat them up."
Now, to find wimmin. Go to their nesting grounds. When I attended the university of Oregon, there were two gals for every guy. I never asked a woman out - they always asked me out. Fun! In married life I spotted two other hotspots: master gardening class and art class.

Chicks nobody could cope with become single mothers. Courts give them custody for the children. The children either become mega psycho or PhD in psychology.

Amazingly enough, this is a true bit of wisdom.
Women do NOT tell men their problems in order to get solutions. As a rule the girl already KNOWS several solutions, and has a plan of attack. If you offer a solution, then she has to be polite and not say "Duh!! " .
The reason for sharing the situation is to share the experience, and get emotional support. Volunteering to do battle for her qualifies as emotional support.

Well, I don't have a phd in anything, so I must be "mega psycho". I like the sound of it. It sort of gives me license to rant.

i dont buy that. im sure its better to have two loving parents in a healthy relationship, but growing up in a less ideal environment than that wont make you a psycho. or maybe i just hide it well

Of course, many single mothers also derive from guys no one could cope with. And many more have more complex and subtle causes than that.

Yes, finding and keeping them are two soooo different things. But on finding them, I just found out that many women go to places like Home Depot to meet guys. Only that there, as someone reported to me (I live in an apartment and already found my guy, don't need to go to Home Depot ), are no guys! Hint, hint.

High schools are gonna be 50/50 aren't they? I wasn't nearly as lucky in high school as I was in college. But I think that has everything to do with the ratio of men to women.
