"Common people" use Windows, AOL, and Microsoft office.
Not sure what royals uses -- don't know what runs on Acorns.

On PC and after Windows, Outlook, and Internet Explorer, perhaps stuff like Kazaa and CD/DVD copying software is the most popular. I'm just guessing.

Well, I'd consider myself a common person... Lemme see...
Mozilla is my favorite program. I'm using it now!
I really like OpenOffice; it has saved me lots of money.
Real VNC is a necessity for any household or business having Windows PCs in multiple locations.
My favorite dictionary is at the Mirriam-Webster website. Lots of good stuff there.
My favorite utility for organizing my life is my PDA.
And my favorite "utility" for learning about how to learn Java is here.

AOL IM is the most popular software in use on the internet today.

My guess would be Adobe Acrobat Reader or the Flash plug-in.

Another way to find out (and download, if you wish) the most popular utilities is to visit http://www.downloads.com Its a CNET site, and if you check the 'Most Popular' list, you will top 50 most popular downloads (mostly file sharing utils, instant messengers and such internet utils) from that site.

hmm.. can you tell me the use of camera for common man apart from taking non-sense family pictures.
It all about marketing, if you want to sell technical thing to common man it has to be attached with emotions/entertainment so most of us will find chat/file sharing/games softwares useful.
Or you are expecting some accountant s/w app name like Tally or medical software to be told...

I'm really not sure what you're after. A number of people have said "Microsoft Office" which I'm sure is far and away the thing the largest number of people stare at all day at work; I doubt you could get a truer answer than that. Other people have mentioned Adobe Acrobat, which is on virtually every desktop computer in existence, although probably used less often.
I doubt that more than a very tiny percentage of people use "medical software" -- I'm not even sure what you mean by that!
Why not tell us your guesses, and then we'll have an idea what you're after!
