doubt regarding java prep

hi,
i would like to know as to how much time is required to prepare for sjcp. i am a begineer but would like to know as to how one should build along to be ready for certification.
also kindly give some references for good books.

How much time to prepare depends on individual, how much time you put in per day, etc. As for books, I used the complete Java2 certification guide and Java2 exam Cram. To get your feet wet with java though, I suggest Ivor Horton's Beginning Java 2. Thinking in Java by Bruce Eckel will also help you a great deal both for the exam and as you progress in your career.

JavaRanch has a BunkHouse full of recommendations for books.
For a beginner book I like Just Java 2 by Peter van der Linden.
For certifications books I am sort of biased . . .

thanks for the replies. i would like to know that how much time would i need( imean number of hours per day and for how many days)to be sure to clear the sjcp. a rough estimate would do.
say a month or 2 months or more.
