tree data structure

Hello,
I have some data that would be best represented as a tree. I have seen the JTree in Swing but the way it displays the data (as in the case of files and folders) is not the way I want them to be shown. Where can I find more info about creating and displaying trees with the root at the top and the children branching out downwards (like an inverted real tree) ?
Thanks in advance,
Tanya
