As I understand the Thread is a part of a process. Correct?

Technically, you are correct, threads run inside of the JVM which is a process. In reality most people look at individual threads as individual proceses in their own right - even though they aren't. They have been called light-weight processes too.
Check out Sun's tutorial chapter pn threads for some good info.
That should give you a good start, then if you have some specific question let us know.
