See Through Background Image

I am trying to make the background of a frame so that it is a kind of see through grey colour, so that whatever is behind the frame is still visible. Is this possible? If so any help greatly appreciated.

You could eventually get a JInternalFrame to exhibit this behavior, but not a JFrame. A JFrame is a native-OS peer; it's drawn by the native platform. Most platforms don't give you the ability to have translucent frames. Mac OS X does this, but this is certainly not a pure-java feature, and you would have to use some Mac-specific library to achieve this.
