embedded programming

Java Emerged as a language which will facilitate programming for electronic good etc... , but ... i have not found one good example for this. Where can I know more on that. If any one can explain the basics of embedded programming...like the startup...to... implementation, i will be very greatful

Let's see if I can think of a couple.
Ever programmed the thermostat in your house? There is a good chance that the program was written in java.
How about the menu on your cell phone? - Yup probably java.
And those pesky little computers that control just about everything in your car. Lots of java there.
And your palm pilot . . .
And your VCR . . .
And your digital watch . . .
etc.
