I'm looking at the description of Effective Java Language Programming Guide by Joshua Bloch at Sun and think it might be a book I'd like to acquire. The bunk house gives it a good review. I thought I'd like to hear from others, good or bad, before I purchase. So, does anybody have any thoughts on this book?
THanks in advance.

It's a great book, and one that I would recommend even to people that have been using Java for several years. There will certainly be something to learn from it.

I haven't read the book yet, but I saw Josh Block speak at JavaOne twice this year. He's an awesome speaker and definately knows his stuff. If you can learn (and practice) everything in that book, you'll be an awesome programmer.

Simon, Jessica, and Cindy,
Thanks for your responses. I guess I should get myself out to amazon.com and place the order.
Fei,
Sun does not offer this book in an online version. That's the only place I looked.

No but if you read through these References to Effective Java at JavaRanch you will get the gist of what his topics are. Several topics have hunks of this book quoted.

If you buy it through Amazon, make sure you use a JavaRanch link. That way JavaRanch gets a tiny percentage - but it helps pay for server support. .

Thanks for letting me know about that Cindy. I'll be sure and use the link so that JavaRanch can make some sheckels.

Have you see this discussion in the "Book Reviews" forum?

Thanks for pointing that out. I guess I hadn't looked close enough at the forum topics to know that there was a book review forum.
Thanks again.

One final note... I understand JavaRanch getting a few sheckels if people use the links from the bunk house to order books from amazon.com but... I found the book for $9 cheaper at bookpool.com... I thought everybody should know...
