This is driving me nuts.
I've slogged around to all the web sites I could think of, used every search term I could think of, read every FAQ that looked vaguely related and come up dry.
I fire up a Java application, say BlueJ, and the text in the drop downs, along with other text like tab headings, shows up inverted. Same with Java chats.
I know this isn't "writing code" related and I apologize for that but I've wasted alot of time on something I'm pretty sure has a simple solution.

I wish I knew. I don't think I've got anything to exotic. Here's the directly java-related stuff.
C:\jkd1.4
C:\jakarta-tomcat-4.0
C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.1_01
C:\Program Files\Java Web Start
Here's the java-related path stuff:
path=c:\;c:\windows;c:\windows\command;C:\jdk1.4\bin
set CLASSPATH=.;C:\;C:\jdk1.4\lib\tools.jar
set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;C:\tomcat\lib\servlet.jar;.
set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;C:\My Download Files\MySql Jdbc drivers\mm\mm.mysql.jdbc-1.2c\mysql_comp.jar
rem set _JavaHome=c:\jdk1.4\jre\bin
set TOMCAT_HOME=C:\tomcat
set JAVA_HOME=c:\jdk1.4
set CATALINA_HOME=c:\jakarta-tomcat-4.0
I think it's JRE related because when I uninstalled that, the upside-downing went away but my browser (Opera) complained.

Are the letters inverted, or just the order of the lines? That is, do you see
3
2
1
when you expect
1
2
3
or do the numbers appear upside down?

The letters are inverted. And if I do something to repaint the screen, click to another window or app, and back again, they show up OK. It's as if doing anything, highlighting a menu item or hitting "Enter" in a Java chat, causes the letters to invert and then doing something to force a repaint causes the letters to show up normally.
I'm thinking maybe having the JDK and the JRE might be a problem?

Nobody wants to win a brand, new teddybear by coming up with a brilliant solution?
