If Witing is Autocratic in nature , despotic and a solitary activity and Reading is Democratic in nature (it needs the engaging of at least two minds and uses the experience of reading and the adjusting of expectations of what the book is like,at a speed to be controlled by the reader and the success of that is totally up to us ,our responsibility ) what is Blogging ?
Fundamentalists supply their written material and nothing else is allowed to be read or questioned. Fundamentalists also expect only Silent Reading (and nodding). All kinds of Churches seem to preach the message in buildingd filled with Audio Visual technicians.
Do you think the Blogging experience changes Reading and Writing ?

Is that church or college? Replace "Fundamentalists" with "Professors" and the relevance stays the same

About the 'democracy of reading',it's an interesting idea but a flawed one. The concept of 'reading' like that of 'democracy' is historically and socially consistent (ie that is a good thing) and therefore 'ideological'. But 'reading' is not a given.
'Reading', depending on who you are and where you come from, like most things in this world, is loaded with value which will change with the person. A lot of academic 'reading' and writing about 'reader-response' theories which highlight the very complex socio-historical-psychological-political nature of the act of reading itself.
Reading must be actively encouraged and promoted. The possible states of reading range from a 1 to 1 interaction between reader/words on the page to a Barthesian 'erotics' of reading in bed.
Language is an global tool of power for all people in all cultures, and both children and adults should be actively encouraged to 'discover', 'deconstruct' (read) the structures (and values) of language that give it power, both in fiction and 'out there' in the big bad world. It can be a very liberating experience though uncomfortable at times. It's a tough nut to crack.
*BARTHESIAN: Pertaining to the ideas of the very influential French writer, critic and teacher Roland Barthes Roland Barthes ( a better link).
