get the current time

I would like to print out the current time precise to millisecond to the console. right before the whole program is run and right after the program is run, what should i do?

Depending on what exactly you want to accomplish, there are different options:

long time = System.currentTimeMillis();

OR

import java.text.SimpleDateFormat;
import java.util.Calendar;
Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance();
SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("hh:mm:ss:SS");
System.out.println(sdf.format(calendar.getTime()));

OR

        TimeZone tz = TimeZone.getTimeZone("EST");
        TimeZone.setDefault(tz);
        Calendar rightNow = Calendar.getInstance();
        int millisecond = rightNow.get(Calendar.MILLISECOND);
        int hour = rightNow.get(Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY);
        int min = rightNow.get(Calendar.MINUTE);
        int day = rightNow.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK);

... and many other choices and options. Pick whatever suites you best
