What version of Windows are you running?
What version of java? ( do java -version )

That particular library is the MS C runtime lib. It's possible that you have something on your machine that has installed an incompatible version. One big possibility is AOL Instant Messenger. I would try uninstalling the Java SDK and reinstalling and see if that does the trick. The SDK comes with a compatible version of MSVCRT.DLL.

Hi,
Please do a re-installation of the software.
This is the best thing.
And let me know the results !

Is there any reason why you want Java 1.2? the latest supported version is 1.4.1_02 (actually latest is 1.4.2 beta). I would recommend getting that from http://java.sun.com/
Or at least get the last 1.3.1_XX version.
Also is that Windows 98 you have the second edition?

I found this to back up Michael:
New Version of MSVCRT.DLL
The Miscrosoft Windows version of the Java 2 SDK and Java 2 Runtime Environment contains version 6.00.8337.0 of the MSVCRT.DLL file from Microsoft. The SDK and Runtime Environment installer will install this version of MSVCRT.DLL on your system if and only if it is newer than the MSVCRT.DLL file that may already be on your system.

If you must have Java 1.2 then rename MSVCRT.DLL (to TMPMSVCRT.DLL say) and reinstall Java 1.2 again. The re-installation should then put the correct (for Java 1.2 anyway) MSVCRT.DLL on your system.
