I'm new never try JAVA before and I don' evern know how to star. Hi ALf, Welcome to JavaRanch! You need to add C:\J2sdk1.4.2_01\bin to your PATH environment variable. The proper way to do this varies by system, but for more modern Windows versions, it just involves visiting the "System" control panel. Open applications won't see the new environment variables until they're restarted, which includes DOS console windows.
