I'm new never try JAVA before and I don' evern know how to star. I downlaod the software from SUN but everytime I try to COMPILE it will give and error and I have chaged the PATH, deleted, re-downloaded again and the same thing "javac" is not recognized as and internal or external command operable or program or batch file. may be the following can help and case you can help me I got: C:\j2sdk1.4.2_01\bin C:\windows\java\ (among others) HelloWorldApp.java Path=C:\j2sdk1.4.2_01\bin Please """HELP""" Thank you Please help me [ October 02, 2003: Message edited by: alf navarro ] [ October 03, 2003: Message edited by: alf navarro ] [ October 03, 2003: Message edited by: alf navarro ]

Hi ALf, Welcome to JavaRanch! You need to add C:\J2sdk1.4.2_01\bin to your PATH environment variable. The proper way to do this varies by system, but for more modern Windows versions, it just involves visiting the "System" control panel. Open applications won't see the new environment variables until they're restarted, which includes DOS console windows.
