i hope i am not in the wrong forum. (cindy)
this prog. has to read in a file containing employee names, id number, department and salaries, calculate and output the info. to a file.
it should have a menu to allow the user the option (menu) to either sort by department, employee id etc.
I hope this isn't too hard for this forum, i am a beginner myself, just trying stuff out.

What is it you'd like help with? Sounds straightforward...you'll need some packages from java.io, javax.swing, java.awt, etc. Just a matter of jumping in and doing it. Have you worked with Java at all up to now? You might be hard pressed to have anyone 'give' you answers here (except in desperate work situations), as researching it yourself is what helps you learn the language. So let's start small - can you build the interface (the GUI)?
