Missile and Missive. I came across an Iraqi cartoon that had Salty and Donor that differed by one Arabic letter. Quite a funny cartoon really. It had one chappie holding a cactus on one side and another holding a red apple on the other side of a cowering Iraqi in the centre. (I'll have to try and find it again ). regards

There are about 14 other one-letter variations from "slit". Perhaps we should ask, what is the longest pair of words like this which differ by only one letter?

sleep - sleet (5 letters) prayer - player (6 letters)
Without the length issue that Jim introduces, this is a fairly pointless word game. There are thousands of word pairs that differ in only one letter. absorption - adsorption (10)

I thought the war association was a nice touch. It kind of stopped after the 2nd, ehm 3rd post. Though Thomas's prayer and player would count then. Possibly, love, live, weak and week. But longest pair is good as well, and neutral . bush bash defected detected benefict benedict combat wombat destruction restruction hole-around home-ground multiply multiple artificial ratificial - No, artify ratify.
I could be accused of making one or two up ! Could I ? regards [ November 20, 2003: Message edited by: HS Thomas ]
