My path env variable specifies jdk1.3.0\bin, but when i try to type javac, it cannot be recognized. What should i do? P.S. i would want to specify version j2sdk1.4.0_01\bin for upgrade. it's already installed. thanks!

Do you have a file named javac.exe in C:\jdk1.3.0\bin?
