Hey guys, I am playing with the idea of making up a basic text editor then imporving upon this until I have an inbetween version of notepad and word, something i can be proud of but not too big. my question is this.... Can I make the program run if I click on an icon, e.g. like notepad? or does it always have to be run from the command line? davy
How simple does it have to be???

It depends on what operating system you are using. For Windows at least, it tries to run executable JARs much as you would expect normal programs to operate. I'm not sure about the others. You can always create wrappers around the "java" command so you CAN just click on something and it will invoke what we normally have to type in the command line. If I remember correctly, Apache or Tomcat has a project that aims to make that much easier than doing it all yourself.
