Merry Christmas

I celebrate Christmas. And while I recognize and respect other holiday traditions such as Hannukah and Kwanzaa, I will wish you Merry Christmas, because it is what I know best. I also wish everyone here a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
You all know me from my strong and consistent opinions. Some of you hate my positions, some of you agree, all of you think I'm occasionally loud and obnoxious. (Some of you don't think "occasionally" )
But, friends, I wouldn't bother if I weren't trying to understand, and in turn to share with you some understanding of me, a pretty good representative of the type of person who is proud to be an American.
And proud to be American doesn't mean I consider myself somehow better by birth than anybody else here. In fact, if anything I consider many of you to have worked harder and longer and more diligently than I, because I won the lottery of birth and was able to start out here in this wonderful country.
I am about to be blessed with a new baby boy. God willing, he will be born healthy and happy. And I promise each of you this - he will NEVER be taught to discriminate against someone because of their nation of origin or ancestry, or because of their gender or religion or any other personal belief. He will be taught only to judge individuals by their actions, and that the best action is to leave the world a better place than you found it, and to help others achieve their potential.
I hope some day your children and mine will meet, and they will reach out to each other as friends, not adversaries. And I hope that their children, and their children's children, will work together to make the world a better place, and laugh at the follies of their parents. I hope someday they can walk together in a world that they are rebuilding and repairing, rather than raping and destroying, and I hope they can travel to each other's lands without fear of reprisal, and that children of ALL lands can live in a world of freedom and hope, instead of fear and despair. I hope that someday starvation and oppression and genocide are just words in dictionaries.
I hope that one day war and terrorism and racism and religious persecution are all looked upon with the same vague horror we feel at tales of the Spanish Inquisition, or of the persecution of Christians in Rome; as things only some past barbaric ancestors would condone.
I hope someday we will no longer remember how to teach our children to hate.
Peace and love to you all. Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas, Joe.
That is a very nice post. More like that and I'll skip church. You should think about becoming a priest.

I dont remember the exact name of the movie
It came in International film festival, Delhi in 1990 or 91.
I am sure it must be a flop movie or made only for film fest.
But it was good.

One of the best posts that I've seen.

Peace and love to you all. Merry Christmas.
Joe

I will wish you and everyone here a very Happy & Joyous Christmas; but I cannot bring myself to wish anyone a "Merry" one. Merriment to me, when I look around, is basically eating & drinking & well, making merry. However, for me, Christmas is not about these.
