Hi Ritika,

Welcome to JavaRanch!

Are you sure that the version you have is for Windows and not for Unix or some other operating system (e.g. you clicked the wrong link by mistake when downloading)? Don't suppose it would have even installed if that we the case though.

Is there any reason why you've chosen to use JDK 1.2.2 rather than the latest production version (1.4.2)?

I've had 1.3 and 1.4 on my XP box but never 1.2 'cos it's ancient.

If you could give a little more idea of the exact error you're getting then perhaps I could offer further help.

On unix, there is not such a thing as 'javac.exe'. Must be another problem.

What may be happening is that the MS JVM is being called (after all, it's in the winnt/system32 directory) while the registry settings are pointing to the 1.2.2 installation.
replace java*.* in your windows and windows/system32 with the equivalents from the 1.2.2 installation folder and try again (and set the bin bin directory under your 1.2.2 installation as part of your system path as well for good measure).
