Compilation problem--javac not recognised

I just inatalled J2EE 1.4 SDK on my PC running Windows XP. I am trying to compile my first program now and keep getting a message that 'javac' is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

I checked the PATH. It said C:\java\bin (java being the directory where my SDK is inatalled).

I do not know where I am going wrong. Please help!

The J2EE SDK includes a servlet container, an EJB container, Web services tools, and other paraphernalia needed for J2EE development. It doesn't include a Java compiler or runtime; for that you need the "J2SE SDK", also called the J2SDK or simply JDK. To do J2EE development, you want both.
