In your database you will need a Topic table, each topic will have an ID and can accept one or more posts. You would also store the user's ID in every post/topic they create and therefore would be able to sort by postByUserId

In otherwords, you need to develop a database schema to store the information about the forum. Most likely you will want to access this database using ASP.

(And as Ernest said on another forum, you should ask your question only on a single forum. It makes it easier for people to follow the conversation this way.)

This is a huge project, so you should break it into smaller pieces. You might not want to go as far as writing out a formal design, but some amount of design is necessary. What different parts will you need? As you have said, you need a database and some JSP code. What kind of information do you need to store in the database? How will you organize the data? If you need help with this part, you should visit the JDBC forum where database topics are discussed here at the Saloon.

As for the JSP code, how will you organize your code so that it is easy to maintain and make changes as you go? What classes do you think you need to write this program? What are each of these classes responsible for? For general design considerations and proper OOP techniques, you may want to visit the OO, Patterns, UML and Refactoring forum for help with specific questions. When you finally get to coding, you should go to the JSP forum for help with JSP syntax and APIs.

So to sum up, you need to come up with some kind of design and decide how you are going to solve this task. Writing some things on paper will definitely help you keep organized.

Good Luck and Keep Coding!
