My company is running an awt applet that has behave quite well until java5. The release of java5, has raised a huge issue of "How to ensure applets are run in a particular plugin?" I have JDK 1.3 - 1.5 installed. The Java control pannel only lets me select applets to run in 1.5. Any suggestions???

My minor issue is that now in the java5 plugin TextArea scroll bars. As I append text to the end of a TextArea the scroll bar does not always scroll to the end of the appended text. In prior plugins it all worked quite well.

Some days is does not pay to give up a J2EE gig.

I think the idea here lies in which version you compile your applet in. Use this to compile in desired version -

javac -target <version> AppletName.java

Hope this helps. I cant test this as i dont have a JDK on this pc.

Actually I want to control what version of java the applet runs under.

If you see the java control panel (jkd 1.5)-> java -> java applet runtime settings-> view

Looks like there is a way to choose what JVM to run applet in. However it does not provide me with a way to add jdk 1.2 1.3 1.4 or more precisely can I say that MyApplet must run under MS IE 1.8?

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
