Where can I check information for a particular method that it was incorporated in which version of java.

e.g

replaceAll (Version 1.4)

toLowerCase (Version 1.1)

I am looking for regionMatcher

I do have Overview(Java 2 platform SE v 1.4.2) but it does not mention about regionMatcher
Thanks

In the JavaDocs for a particular version of the JDK. If the methods have been properly documented (which you'd hope they were be Sun's own engineers) there should be a @since tag.

In certain methods there is no @since tag. regionMatcher is one of those. What does that signify?

If a method has no since version listed then it should mean it was added when the class was added. For String that's :

Since:
JDK1.0

To confirm this, you could look at the API documentation for previous versions.

Unfortunately, the link I just gave doesn't list the JavaDocs back that far. (I guess I should look closer before I blindly post a link.) However, it looks like Sun maintains an archive where you can download previous versions (and the appropriate documentation).
