Why do my ide dont recognize the scanner class?..

we need more info in order to help you ,what operating system are you using, which IDE and what is the current IDE version ?

You have probably an older version of jdk too along with jdk 1.5.
Update the path settings (the how of which depends on your ide) to use the correct java version.

As noted above, this probably means that you are not using Java 1.5 with your IDE. However, to help you any further we need to know more information. As Igor says, it will help if you tell us what IDE and operating system you use as well as the version numbers of each.
