What is "this place"? Earth? This existance in general? I suspect you are speaking about this site though.
If you are refering to the fact that I closed a thread that was getting a little silly, and I don't know if you are, comments may be directed to PM or email. As a matter of explanation though... Four or five different people demanding apologies for slights either real or imagined, a thread that had long since deviated from any semblance of not only "on-topic" but "cordial" as well, and a discussion that basically devolved into "he said this, no she said that".... According to page 27 paragarph 3 of my trusty moderator's handbook, this means it's time to close 'er down.

We were absent for a week, and this was enough to drive our cat totally crazy. I am petting her the whole day today, and she just cannot get enough of this. She've never been particularly friendly, and now she licks my face and this makes me wonder if our vacations really worth all this.

As far as I was concerned, the thread had a pretty important topic: what constitutes civil behavior in MD. And I found it interesting that the thread was actually settling down quite nicely until a moderator whipped it up.
Why shouldn't an apology be warranted when an unfounded accusation is made? Isn't that the height of civility? To acknowledge one's mistakes and apologize?
It's my contention that in MD civility and discussion are sometimes less of a concern than being right, and that the moderators are often as much at fault as anybody else.

Jason, you must apologize, -- it was all your fault. Repent, and you will be forgiven. Acknowledge your sins, son, reach the new height of civility. For nothing matters more than civil behavior in MD and MD justice. Or else...

Hee hee! Yes, repent! Repent!
Seriously, though, I get the idea Paul wants something more than the typical Usenet crap for MD. That takes more than just applying "be nice" and then letting everything else go up for grabs. It requires civil behavior to promote active, intelligent debate. It takes a little effort, but generally a civil tone can be found. And everything starts with the moderators.

Every day, every day, every day, every day, every day, every day, every day, I have the blues...

I'm beginnin' to believe that civil behavior derives from civil disobedience.
'Course that was way back in the good ole' days. I s'pose times change... and we gotta keep up with the times, eh?
