How well into Java

I was just wondering: how well into Java one should be in order to start going through SOAP/JAXP/other Java+XML technologies.
Before I started learning Java I did some XML and have the basics well under my belt. I also have a good grasp at OOP principles and good basics of Java... hell, I can even through in some swing
Is there any particular part of Java Standard Edition that needs to be focused on before going for Java+XML technologies?
Mucho thanks,

Assuming you mean working with XML in Java, then I think basic understanding of OO concepts is a must, because you will need to understand the XML API's to make any sense of it. JDOM is a very good XML API, I thoroughly recommend it. Data Structures would be VERY useful, because often you are getting data out of an XML document and want to process it.

Please don't cross post. It just wastes people's time.
