Can someone tell me what a logger is ?
There is material on the net but its way too vast.
Can someone demonstrate to me using a 10 line program how
logging would be done?

Thanks

I suggest you read the JavaDocs for this class.

Apache's Log4j is pretty popular among open source community. I've been using it for about six months already. They got pretty good documentation and you can find other resources related to Log4j easily as well.
