I am new to this wonderful group. I am tryind to do one project in JSP/Servlet with MS Excel and MS Access. Before I am going to start this, I thought it will be useful for me to get some advice from this group. I will just overview my project: 1. MS Access is the database. 2. MS Excel is used in two ways. One It has been used as database. That is the data in excel has to upload to MS Access. And the datas in the MS Access to be transferred to MS Excel(to generate the report) Done all the other manipulation, calculation, updation and everything in JSP and Servlet and it has to be stored in MS Access.
I want to know what are all things I have to know to use JSP/Servlet with MS Excel. I have used Visual Basic 6.0 with Excel. I don't know how to use in Java(JSP/Servlet).
For example: A user has to fill up the JSP form and it has to stored in MS Access. (No problem with this). I want to list all the data in the MS-ACCESS to MS-Excel.
Any sample Open-source will available or any directions/suggestions will be helpful
that sounds a bit like a very rough sketch to me. it seems that you want to put a web-frontend in front of a database. i did'nt get the role of excel in you constellation.
but, as a fist shot: you'll need to develop some sort of interfaces between the different layers of your application. if a table in in excel gets changed, some sort of native (=VB) code will have to jump in to process the data to be readable by another (=JSP) application. honestly, i don't know how to access a access-DB from a java application (jsp/servlet). i'm sure it's possible. forum search / google will help you :-)
maybe you should break down your problem in some smaller steps: - develop a jsp front-end with non db-functionality - connect it to a db (with jdbc) - connect it to ms-access - bring excel into the game
overall, your application is not trivial at all. maybe start with something smaller to get a better idea and understanding of java.
