Do they even have a clue what kind of problems they could cause people? I give blood regularly and this goes beyond stupidity.

Nothing like putting the glory of winning an important blood drive ahead of the health and welfare of strangers. I bet she parks in handicapped parking spaces too.

That's what you get from putting things like this in a competition setting.
What were the prizes they could win for the group that donated the most?
I'm never going to donate blood. I have a serious phobia towards needles, serious enough that I can't even watch someone else getting an injection without feeling queesy (I've fainted from seeing people getting injections on TV in the past, not kidding here) after several tortuous experiences when having blood drawn as a child (hurt sometimes for days afterwards due to the ineptness of the people doing the job).
As a positive side-effect, I'm pretty immune from any temptation to try heroin

So you would probably drop when they did the iron test. Spring loaded needle goes into the finger and they squeeze some blood into a tube. They then drop it into a solution as a quick iron test.
They hold a contest here in town every year. Battle of the badges. You choose fire or police but there is nothing other than bragging rights involved.
I would recommend anyone who can give blood should at least a couple times a year if not more.

I think the Red Cross sets a limit to two or three times a year for health reasons.
Anything more and you might run into trouble yourself...

In that case it'd be more like a blood loan than a blood donation

To give blood for transfusion to another person, you must be healthy, be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and not have donated blood in the last 56 days.
