I saw photos on T.V I hope pictures like this will spread around so that people will start thinking with their conscious instead of their greed. I also heard that the Americans administration is afraid of such pictures being spread around and anti-war resentiment might rise again. I'm fully aware that many innocent Iraqi civilians are being injured and killed by US bombs, and that's horrific. Honestly, thoughts like this plague me every day... I do not consider myself truly pro- or anti-war, but that does not make me indifferent.
I would advise anyone in here especially young and sensitive members if you go to these sites, are aware you are going to see dead people of both sides.[links remove by M Habibi]

Hi Sara,
I'm more sensitive to these images than you might suspect after reading this note: I can't imagine that anyone wouldn't be moved to silence by them. And the Javaranch MD forum has, in the past, been an appropriate place for people to post this sort of thing.
However, it no longer is.
I'm sorry, but I'm removing the pictures. I hope you choose to engage in MD in the future, and bring your unique perspective to the forum.
All best,
M

So why the tightening of the censorship noose? I can see a zero-tolerance policy against flagrant smut/violence, but it sounds to me, especially with Sara's disclaimer, that the post was, though possibly extreme, legitimate. Realize, I have no affinity for such images, but...these photos were taken for a reason, by someone, somewhere, who had something to say and they said it with a photograph. All those journalists getting shot full of holes, peppered with shrapnel, and otherwise maimed and mutilated, are going to war for a reason...to document an event that most of us will never experience, yet are quick to form an opinion on (we're all guilty of armchair-quarterbacking to some extent).
So many folks can afford to be complacent with not-knowing the ugly things, because so many censors readily step up to silence the reality of those ugly things.
Pardon me for getting philosophical and possibly argumentative, but I haven't eaten yet and I just happen to stumple upon this post with a grumbling stomach and some frustrations to vent (maybe I should go back to the Emeril sucks thread). You see, I'm peeved by censorship, but then again, if I don't want to be censored, I should start my own board in which case I'd probably just end up talking to myself. So strike that option.

Sara's post, while very important, does not belong here: we'll still allow polite political discussion, but the nature of Sara's post tends, based on our experience, to bring a shitstorm of reaction from people who hold a different political opinion, and MD, in turn, becomes collaterally damaged.
We don't like that.
If you'd like to learn more about the issues she's trying to raise, I encourage you to contact her and ask her directly, or visit a political forum.
best regards,

I object to the term "shitstorm" when you just as easily could have said "poo-poo shower."

Understood. Yes, I suppose inevitably the crackpots will jump in and post completely useless garbage with no purpose other than to splash fuel on the fire. It's sort of a toss up, somewhere between the Wild West, anything-goes attitude, and the Saturday morning Mr. Rogers marathon. I don't blame the administration for not wanting to clean up the bodies in the aftermath of a flame war between some overly-caffienated programmers. Myself, I prefer spaghetti westerns, so give me a Colt, a cheap, half-chewed cigar, and a mean-sounding, Clint Eastwood soundtrack (you can hear it now, can't you?). Okay, I'm done rambling.

Hy Max,
To which nature did the owner change the political nature of MD?
Can I read it somewhere?
Or is it daily changing?
My government is getting nervous over the years (germany) and I don't like to be in a forum which has a political nature that could make them more nervous.

Less political, and more lighthearted.
dammit.

Can I read it somewhere?

We'll probably put something together soon enough.

Or is it daily changing?

It might be, for a while. Look around, and you should be able to pick up a sense of the change.

I understand: there's nothing worse than nervous Germans
