As Sergeant Hudsell says, he also was made listen to Barney the Dinosaur's song for 45 minutes during psychological stability tests. He says he wouldn-t like to stand the torture once again.

Then he better not become a parent. I was forced to listen to that music for eight years!

'You reading "Pravda" these days, HS? I never thought of such as stunt, but maybe I should consider it, too. With the American media censored by Pentagon, one doesn't have much choice, does one?
In regards to the article, I am wondering -- if the torture by playing "The Sesame Street" and "Barney the Dinosaur" makes the Iraqis talk, and it does the same to the American children, is it something that transcends both cultures?

I have to admit that I had to check the URL a couple of time to make sure I wasn't reading The Onion.
A google search on "Sergeant Hudsell" turned up only two hits. The one from Pravda and the other from marijuana.org! So what are they smoking over at Pravda these days?

Is CNN (Clinton News Network?) good enough for you?
Military spokesman 'disgusted' by prison photos:

Actually it was CBS' 60 Minutes II that showed it in the US for the first time, only two days ago.

Yes, the papers are full of the shocking images. If they played the music as well that would probably surpass anything Sadaam did bar executing the prisoners.

Which has nothing to do with the original post which is from an article that is a year old and has to do with playing the theme from Barney.

It has to do with it now.

I believe the entire American military condemns these actions: This is simply not the way that Americans act, and anyone who acts this way is not, by my definition, an American.
If anything, they're traitors, as they deepen resentment among the Iraqi, and put more of our troops in harm's way.

A gentle reminder to ease up: you're both right.
Thomas responded to the original article, which might as well be from The Onion. If you read the surrounding matter to that link, clearly it's a spoof.
As to the more sobering links provided later. Let's not call on a unanimity of condemnation for the reports. Please let's let people speak to those actions if they wish, and let them say nothing if that is their preference.

Why do I have to condemn anything? What has this to do with me? Is everyone required by you to post their condemnation in this thread? We can start with you... do you condemn the behavior?
My comment was based on the original article which claimed that a Sergeant was forced to listen to the Barney theme song for 45 minutes as a test of his psychological stability.

Your're damn right I condemn the actions of these American soldiers!
President Bush condemned the situation too so he agrees with me.
If found guilty, I wish they get the maximum penalty. But not just them, also the commenders in direct charge, including the general. They should be held accountable for not directing their charges appropriately.
They may have just single-handedly caused our defeat in Iraq; we'll see.
The arab world hates us enough as it is (after promising so much and delivering so little in Iraq) that the last thing we need is to loose the slightly higher moral ground that we had (it began with an even higher moral ground, just to collapse as all the lies started to come out).
Who knows, maybe that atrocity contributed to us more or less capitulating in Falujja (sp) and recurring to a former Republican Guard general to help us there. (BTW, what if instead this general joins the insurgents inside!? )
What these soldiers did was asinine. Maybe we (well, the armed forces) should raise their recruiting standards.
As if we didn't have enough to worry about in Iraq and then this!?
"Give me a break!" (Not anyone personally! Just a figure of speech )

That is the ultimate fear. For that reason, and the fact that we are still at war, why did the media distribute these images? (Or was it the arab media who first discovered them?)
We could have just as easily disciplined these soldiers in private and taken steps to prevent further occurances without endagering more lives and the entire mission. The arab world is outraged, but I'm cynically amused that their outrage at existing Iraqi Baathists and Sadaam was so muted when the mass graves were discovered, when thousands of children were found in political prisons, when the Kurds were gassed, etc...

If i might add, at the risk of making some people rather angry at me, is there a SINGLE one of you out there, (be honest), that doubted for a second that this stuff was going on? We all knew that they were doing EVERYTHING wrong down there in Guantanamo. Let's be serious here. I'm just surprised that word of it got out this early.

Out of tens of thousands of troops, do you expect all to be angels at all times? Even civilan police of any nationality have these issues, let alone combat troops whose primary purpose may not include guarding and interrogation. These incidents of a few does not mean that reasonably good job is not being done overall by US standards, and certainly by world standards.
But the tone your post, that we are doing "EVERYTHING wrong", suggests a lack of serious objectivity and a certain bias on these issues IMHO. "Everything" includes quite a bit, and I see no reason to think our all of our armed forces are continually disgracing themselves on a regular basis in Iraq or Guantanamo.

Really? Like what? What evidence do you have to support this claim? The Red Cross has reported that the prisoners have been treated humanely. Do you have any evidence that proves otherwise?

Only AI who have never been anywhere near Guantanamo because they're persona non-grata in Cuba...
AI are of course a bunch of certified nutcases who complain far and wide about the torture of prisoners in European and American prisons (by which they mean 1) the doors are locked and 2) the number of channels on the cable TV in each cell is limited).

Tony, it's been shown conclusively that those images do NOT portray British troops.
The uniforms, weapons and vehicles involved are not of types used by Her Majesty's forces.
Either the photos are faked by the Mirror (being a tabloid, that's not unlikely) or the Mirror didn't deem it important to doublecheck their sources (which is more likely) and the sources aren't trustworthy and/or don't know what they're doing.

Ok, this thread is getting ridiculous. ME asked you guys to tone it down, and everyone who's posted since has done the exact opposite.
If I were the sort of moderator who advocated a position while acting as a judge for the opposite side, I'd have a lot to say here. As it is, I'm just closing this down.
poof.
