actionPerformed method

     wetterbericht.setText( "In" city1 + "it is" + tempstrings);
 }

why is it that my compiler keeps on complaining about an "Illegal start of expression!"at the beginning of this code segment...even though the Java sun Tutorial lists an exactly identical application of this method.
please help,...would really appreciate it.
